| Papua Development Programme: Strengthening Government and Civil Society Capacities to Achieve the MDGs |
- Strengthening policy development and operational planning by helping village, district and provincial authorities to plan and implement effective development programs. Assistance includes technical support for budget and financial management, facilitation for participatory planning approaches, and technical assistance in numerous areas. - Building effective local service delivery through the provision of block grants to strengthen and extend the work of CSOs. A network of facilitators and United Nations Volunteers (UNVs) is supporting the efforts of CSOs and communities to develop sustainable services and livelihoods, and improve local planning processes. - Improving development knowledge networking, by establishing local Community Resource Centers as hubs of development information, technical support for development activity and networking among community and government stakeholders. - Supporting monitoring and evaluation and improved data-gathering through technical capacity building and local level facilitation to better understand the region’s development challenges and strengthen analysis and planning. - Facilitating harmonization of donor support by providing a vehicle for donors to coordinate their efforts, and by assisting the provincial and local governments to collate and use information on donor activities. |
