UNDP Indonesia Annual Report 2005
Building on many years of partnership with the Indonesian people and their Government, UNDP addressed some of the country’s most pressing development challenges in 2005. Much was accomplished including fast and effective support extended to the victims of the earthquake and Tsunami that struck on 26 December 2004. Innovative partnerships were developed to support parliamentary reform, access to justice, decentralization and local poverty reduction strategies, and a large multi-donor programme aimed at reversing the spread of HIV/AIDS started work. This annual report provides an overview of achievements made by UNDP and our partners in the areas of democratic governance, poverty reduction, environmental protection and crisis prevention and recovery. As we complete our current programme cycle and enter a new one spanning the next five years, we take stock of some of the challenges experienced and consider the lessons learned to improve programming for the future. During 2005, UNDP developed a new country programme to forge new partnerships and build on existing ones with Government, civil society, multilateral and bilateral organizations, and the private sector. We believe that successfully addressing national challenges and mobilizing resources to meet them, requires development partners to work closely together under national leadership and guidance. We are grateful for the considerable support we receive from our donors as we work to promote the values of the Millennium Declaration and realize Indonesia’s development potential. As 2005 draws to a close and the curtain rises upon 2006, UNDP Indonesia looks forward to continued strong partnerships with the government and all our other partners. Our common goal is the achievement of the Millennium Development Goals by 2015. There is much to do and many challenges to be met. And this calls for a coordinated effort by everyone who desires a prosperous, developed and sovereign Indonesia. Together, we can make a difference.
